My wife and her family were in London as the starting and departing point of a 16 day whirlwind tour of Europe. Our actual tour started a day after we landed in Heathrow, and with time to ourselves we were out to explore the city.
Of course we had to see some of the sights and tourist attractions, but as it turned later in the evening the thought of relaxing in an air-conditioned (hopefully) theatre started to sound like the very best of ideas.
We had already begun to notice that there were kiosks and ticket outlets on just about every street. The big names and popular musicals were sold out at almost every stand… and the one that did have tickets for the major attractions were for far in advance, and highly over-priced. Then we found the place to shop for tickets. There was a ticket vendor just off of Picadilly Circus that was selling tickets that were for that night only — at half of face value.
This was a first-come-first-serve situation. But, on short notice and little cash outlay, we did get to see the show that we wanted to see.
