If the ground hadn’t sunk beneath Pisa’s Tower, there probably wouldn’t be much else there today. In fact, there isn’t a whole lot that I found interesting. That isn’t to say that it’s not worth visiting, though.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a tower that is leaning, and is held in place by a couple of impressively large cables. The tower will probably fall apart eventually, but it looks as though a great deal of money has been spent trying to save it. Aside from the tower there are several souveneir shops, and street walkers that will try to hock watches, hats, t-shirts, lighters, gold jewelry, or any other product they can counterfeit. The restaurant’s around the tower are quaint, and a full course meal runs around 25,000 lire, which is less than fifteen dollars. The restrooms in the restaurant’s I visited left a lot to be desired.
After doing lunch and the tower, Pisa doesn’t have much left that interested me. However, a short drive from Pisa (ten to fifteen minutes) is Tirrenia, on the Tirrenian Sea. This is a resort town, and offers miles of beautiful beach, and beautiful European women as well. There are volleyball nets and other activities to pursue on the beaches. For a relaxing day, it is a nice spot to visit. There is plenty of shopping, and there are a couple of nice restaurant’s that are better than the one’s in Pisa.
Overall, I would recommend a trip to Pisa, if only to say "been there, done that, got the counterfeit T-shirt." I preferred the beach to the tower, but they are close enough to make them a combined one day deal.
